Remodeling Costs By Jayme Hanson
Anybody that has undertaken any home remodeling projects know that the remodeling costs
can bleed your bank account dry. There are some techniques you can use to save money on your overall remodeling costs.
Cash is always going to be your cheapest method for saving money. If you are adding or remodeling on a large scale then consider a home equity line of credit. Don’t put your smaller projects on a home equity line of credit because you will pay much more for the project than necessary. Only use credit cards for small projects that can be paid for in one or two months.
You can typically save on your remodeling costs
for an addition by building upward instead of outward. The foundation work to build an addition on to your house can be very expensive. Take a look at the inside of your house. Are there spare rooms that can be remodeled for your use? Remodeling costs for redoing existing spaces is much cheaper than either building upward or outward.
If at all possible in your
remodeling, avoid moving the plumbing. Plumbing work can be extremely expensive. Get creative in your remodeling and try to incorporate the existing plumbing. Another cost savings area in your remodeling costs is to use the current electrical wiring. Instead of redoing the wiring in your house, consider supplementing it.
One of the best ways to save on your remodeling costs
is to do the work yourself. Hiring a big contractor to perform the remodeling will add between 15% and 25% to the cost of the remodel. Even if you do hire a contractor there are still ways that you can cut your overall costs such as performing the cleanup work instead of paying the contractor to do this. Of course, there are some projects that you will want to hire someone else to complete but some of the easier projects you can do yourself. You can learn to live with the dust and construction in order to save money on your overall project. This might be an excellent opportunity to release the creative side of you.
